Tips for Hassle-Free Business Travel

September 18th, 2008

Tips for Hassle-Free Business Travel

If you’re a road warrior, these travel tips will help reduce the stress of
your journeys.

Choose how you Travel Wisely
Planes, trains or car: ? While air
may be your only choice for a long journey, shorter destinations of
a couple of hundred miles might be faster via car, train, or bus.
Remember to consider time spent traveling to and from airports, plus time spent lining up for check in, security and departure.

Consider Alternative Airports
If you’re flying, consider alternative airports that are outside the city
you’re going to visit. There can be some advantages, these airports have fewer flights, less
overbooking and less delays than their larger counterparts, however check to see if your flight is direct or not. www.allure-hotels.com has a flight booking feature that allows you not only to compare and be flexible with your dates but also surrounding airports that are available.

In choosing a hotel you may have a favorite brand or maybe somewhere you have been before and enjoyed. When I am going somewhere new and need to be by a local landmark or event location I will search for hotels by area or postal code. there are some great hotel search engines out there such has www.allure-hotels.com

Research your location and print Maps Before You Leave Home
Travel is less stressful if you know how to get around, I bought a portable GPS that I take with me on all my trips, it helps me find restaurants and shopping areas as well.
But before you leave home, do your research and print some maps of your destinations. Place your printed maps and travel documents in a plastic folders and protect them against the elements. I Usually put them in order of use for my trip. -
Map to the Airport, Air Ticket document, car rental, from Airport to Hotel, from Hotel to destination and back then back to airport, air ticket documentation.

Carry Electronic Documents Rather than Hard Copy
Take your electronic documents on diskettes and have them printed at a local
printing service. Similarly, if you are working a booth in a trade
show, it’s a good idea to carry electronic documents in case you run
out of the stack you shipped from the office.

Find Hotels that Cater to Business Travelers
Hotels that cater to business travelers will have Internet capabilities
and offer access to business machines such as faxes and
photocopiers.

If you are traveling out of North America remember to check for what kind of adapters you may need. A good travel store will be able to help you decide what’s needed.

Use Calling Cards
When you’re staying at a hotel, the phone bill can be a major
expense. The cost of calling your family, checking your voice mail
and checking your email is best handled by using a telephone calling
card or a corporate credit card.

Protect Yourself Against Theft
Before leaving home, make copies of your travel documents
(passport, airline tickets, travel insurance, credit cards and itinerary).

Fringe Festival Sept 5-15

September 5th, 2008

If you’ve never been to the Vancouver International Fringe Festival it time to check it out. Much like regular theatre, but much less pretentious and much more anarchic. From September 5 until September 14, 65 national and international productions are performed in total over 500 times. The festival is uncensored and unjuried, so it’s a very mixed bag. You never know whether you’re going to see the next smash hit or some uninspired makeshift show created by a few friends after a night of heavy drinking. But take your chances this is what makes it part of the fun. You don’t need to worry about what youre gona wear as this is no upscale theatre experience, just a bunch of young playwrights trying to make it in Showbiz. You can’t find a more unique, fun and rewarding theatre experience than the Fringe.

Granville Island

August 28th, 2008

Granville Island is one of Vancouver’s more entertaining neighborhoods, but unless you’ve moored up in a houseboat, the only overnight option is the Granville Island Hotel.

This is one of Vancouver’s best-kept secrets, this hotel is tucked away on the edge of Granville Island in a unique waterfront setting, a short stroll from theaters, galleries, and the fabulous Granville Island public market. If you don’t have a car, the only potential drawback to a stay here is the location. During the daytime when the False Creek ferries are running, it’s a quick ferry ride to Yaletown or the West End. After 10pm, however, you’re looking at a C$15-to-C$20 cab ride or an hour walk. The Island after dark is reasonably happening, and the hotel’s waterside restaurant and brewpub are good-weather hangout spots with outdoor seating.

Chinatown Night Market

July 21st, 2008

It’s Night Market season again. You probably know about the Richmond Night Market, which has its own website, and hosted 2 million patrons in 2007.

But don’t forget the Chinatown market for a more intimate experience.

http://www.greatervancouverhotels.com/events/chinatown_night_market.htm

It is smaller than the Richmond night market. But it has all the good stuff like cheap and cheesy clothing, mobile phone accessories, pirate Asian DVDs, and food.

The food that what I love the most has I am the only one in my family who likes to venture into the unknown I get to indulge my senses.

I usuall hop on the skytrain to get there you get off at the main street hinatown stop and head north to where all the people are.

http://www.greatervancouverhotels.com/skytrain/main_street_station.htm

The night markets should run every Friday, Saturday, and Sunday from now through the end of August. Go have some fun.

Mothers Day 2008 May 11

May 5th, 2008

Vancouver, Canada is filled with great ideas for Mother’s Day, like a day in Yaletown with wine, champagne and a chauffer.

Mother’s Day in Vancouver is always fun. There are many things to do and places to take that special woman, whether she’s your mom, your mother-in-law, a soon-to-be mom or even a grandmother. It’s also a great excuse to pamper her with good food, a massage and some quality time with her favourite daughter/son/relative, etc…

At the Opus Hotel (604-642-0557, 350 Davie Street), Elixir bistro moderne is hosting a Mother’s Day brunch from 11:00am – 3:30pm. Two-course, $29.50 CDN and three-course, $36.50 CDN options are available, with things like buttermilk pancakes and wild BC salmon.

While you’re there, enter to win a “Mother and Daughter Opus and Michael Kors Shop and Stay Experience.” Yes, this is a $500 shopping spree at the Michael Kors store at Oakridge Centre, chauffeured service to and from the mall (in a 7 series BMW), one night’s accommodation in a deluxe guestroom at the Opus Hotel, and breakfast for two in the morning. Um, yeah, good deal!

For even more luxury, Absolute Spa (604-684-2772, 1015 Burrard Street) is running specials on Mother’s Day luxury spa treatments. From the massage or body wrap in a bed of roses ($95-$105 CDN) and four hour Hawaiian Vacation (a mix of Lomi Lomi massage, a pedicure, body buff, and body wrap in coconut mango aromas- $315 CDN), to manicures and pedicures for two people ($120 CDN per person) and gift cards, your mother can have anything she wants.
