Guest Review of the Dalton Hotel & Suites

We came to Victoria for a baby moon and found the staff and accommodations to be
great! The free breakfast was really nice (what more could you want?) and the
location was amazing. Our room was a little small but we were only in it to
sleep and relax in the evening. We really enjoyed our stay. The renovations on
our floor looked great and you can really see that the changes will be nice. We
would gladly stay here again!

This hotel was.... Okay.... I understand the cost for the location.... But it's
definitely not a hotel that will go to 4 star status anytime soon. I believe our
room was recently renovated because it had a new sink and newer flooring, fresh
paint and just an overall new feel to it. The craftsmanship was no more than
shoddy as the grout between the tiles was different colors, the toilet was not
sturdy... It rocked.... I'm sure the could put a shim under it to keep it
balanced. The toilet constantly ran unless you lifted the tank lid to drop the
plunger. The plaster on the walls was done by an amateur because you can see
major imperfections throughout. A hotel like this should have LCD TV,s rather
than no name early 90,s crts. The front desk is situated back in a small corner
when it should be out in the open for everyone to see. And no soaps with the DH
insignia... That's disappointing. The beds are very comfortable with slot of
fluffy pillows... The decor is nice too. They should really work on getting all
the room numbers on the doors cause one have fallen off. If you stay in room 243
make sure they have foxed the toilet....I've put in a suggestion at front desk.
All in all, it was a good place for
me and the wife to stay... The pro e was right and it was fairly nice... The
could do a lot better though.

Thank you for taking the time to comment on our hotel! The Dalton Hotel and
Suites is a heritage building from the 1800`s that has been updated, some rooms
renovated and will have more renovations in certain areas again this fall. When
we receive a maintenance complaint we will send our maintenance person to fix it
right away or offer you a new room if possible. If this was not the case, please
let us know. We have two main type of rooms. We have standard rooms which are
less expensive and have only been updated at this time and then our new Boutique
Rooms which have been completely renovated. Our Boutique rooms have
air-conditioning, brand new heritage style furniture and are quite spacious!
Also, all of our guests do receive the Deluxe Continental Breakfast. The Hotel
is under new management and is heading towards a 4 star hotel! In accepting our
apologies, please contact the hotel manager John Lioudakis at
johnl@daltonhotel.ca directly if
you feel like you would like to discuss this further.

This was our first time in Victoria so we were just looking for a centrally
located hotel for a decent price so we could walk through downtown and to the
bay. The Dalton was not only the cheapest but the only one that came with free
breakfast BONUS. Yes, the rooms are small. Yes, some of the furnishing look like
they are from a flee market. Yes, the building is old. But it was absolutely
perfect. What the hotel lacks in luxury it makes up for with an amazing staff
and an over the top continental breakfast. We will stay here again next summer.

We liked the location and the price. The receptionists and other staff were very
pleasant and helpful. There was no air conditioning and the weather was hot, but
there was a fan to use.

Victoria BC - Dalton
It was a small, quaint hotel right smack in the middle of downtown. The place is
a little run-down, the elevator runs extremely slow, and there is no guest
computer available; but, for how little I paid per night it was a good clean
room.

The people were are so friendly and helpful. The beds were so comfy with fluffy
white duvets and great fluffy pillows. Good location. Hotel was full and yet so
quiet. no air conditioning so could be hot in summer but was perfect for May
with a fan in the room. Best breakfast with the waffle machine. Two theatres
near by. Good location to downtown and buses. Would stay there again. And was
very reasonably priced. Nice old fashioned hotel with everything you could need.

We love Victoria and the hotel staff was very attentive and nice. Breakfast was
a great set up and the rooms were clean, comfy beds. The hotel is older so you
have to know that going in as well as the single queen bed room is very tiny but
good enough if you aren’t in the room alot. Love Victoria

This is the second time I have stayed at The Dalton. The location is ideal;
short walk from all of the great spots: the harbour, Chinatown etc. Service is
friendly and efficient. Availability of continental breakfast is a plus with
lots of other restaurants within walking distance of you want something
different. Some sections of the hotel are still being renovated but did not pose
any inconvenience. My hotel of choice in Victoria!

After reading the reviews I was hesitant about the Dalton. The price was the
best for our needs so decided to give it a try. After sleeping in so many
European hotels and getting mattresses as hard as rocks, this was not a
detraction. The room we started with was nice, quiet and comfortable, however
the toilet plugged up on the third day and we had to be moved to another room.
It turned out to be smaller, warmer with a bad view, and noisy due to the ice
machine and soft drink machine situated on the same wall as our bed's headboard.
We were moved to a more deluxe room for the remainder of our stay that had an
extra sitting room with hide away bed. All in all the management was very nice
and helpful. Can't say much for their so-called continental breakfast, but with
a downtown location, eating was not a problem. I would recommend this hotel and
would stay there again.

Based on our stay at the Dalton in Victoria, I would recommend it as a good
value, as it's a comfortable hotel in a great location. Just keep in mind that
this is a two-star, older city hotel -- not a luxury resort, and I think you'll
be satisfied. The hotel is very clean, our bed was VERY comfortable and the
linens and bathroom were very nice too. We received a free continental breakfast
with the stay - nothing fancy but enough to fill up on (waffles, fruit and
cereal). As noted, I thought this was a good value -- we wanted a place with a
little bit of character, not just another chain, but with a good price and the
ability to walk to everything in the downtown area and this was just that. The
only downside I noted is that there was a movie theater across the street from
our room, which created a bit of street noise later in the evening as some of
the movie-goers left (but this was not as noisy as if it was next to a bar!). |
